Healthcare
Beat Leprosy. End Stigma.
The Challenge
Leprosy is not only a medical condition—it is a social sentence. Many affected individuals lose livelihoods, dignity, and community acceptance, forcing them into lifelong dependency and street begging. Poverty, illiteracy, and stigma prevent sustained treatment and recovery.
AMG’s Intervention
AMG established a long-term, dignity-first rehabilitation model for leprosy victims across Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. The approach combines healthcare, nutrition, housing, rehabilitation, and livelihood support—ensuring recovery does not stop at medical cure.
What We Did
- Established 4 dedicated leprosy rehabilitation projects serving 1,200 residents
- Provided permanent housing, treatment, and rehabilitation
- Distributed monthly food rations to 4,865 leprosy patients across 12 towns
- Enabled cured patients to engage in skill-based work and receive salaries, restoring independence
- Delivered nutrition kits (rice, pulses, clothing) and conducted awareness programs to rebuild self-confidence
Impact
- Significant reduction in street begging
- Improved physical health and treatment adherence
- Restoration of dignity and social reintegration
- Families regained stability and income pathways
Outcome
Leprosy victims moved from social exclusion to community participation—living with dignity rather than dependence.
